Nokia has this week announced an environmentally-friendly product by revealing the world’s first energy-saving handset that audibly alerts its users when the battery cell reaches its full charge capacity.
According to Nokia, the "alert" encouragement doled out by its new Nokia 1200, 1208, and 1650 phones when they reach a full charge could amount to enough annual energy conservation to "power 85,000 homes a year".

The aforementioned handsets will be the first pre-programmed with the alert, whilst the alet will be rolled out across the range of Nokia products in the near future.
"We are working on reducing to an absolute minimum the amount of energy our chargers use" pointed out Kirsi Sormunen, Vice President of environmental affairs at Nokia Corporation. "The new alerts also play an important role, encouraging people to help us in this goal by unplugging their chargers."
The world’s leading mobile phone manufacturer is now lauding its charge alerts as the first of a series of environmentally-inspired initiatives.
The company also claims it intends to reduce the amount of power a charger uses while plugged into the mains by a further 50% by the year 2010.
